| Seattle to host WCG 2007! Posted by: SpeeDy
|
The World Cyber Games Committee (WCGC) and the city of Seattle announced today that Seattle will host the 2007 World Cyber Games Grand Final.
The mayor of Seattle, Gregory J. Nickels, welcomed this premier event for the interactive video game industry to Seattle during a signing ceremony today at City Hall. Nickels was joined by Mr. Hank Jeong, chief executive of International Cyber Marketing, global organizer of the world`s largest computer and video game festival.
Seattle is a fitting tribute to our thriving video game industry, which has over fifty game development companies in the Puget Sound area,` said Mayor Greg Nickels. `We welcome the opportunity to host participants from around the world and show them our Seattle hospitality.
Renowned for its youth oriented culture, technology leadership, and for being a window onto the Pacific Rim, Seattle will be only the second US city to host the WCG Grand Final. San Francisco hosted the event in 2004, the first time the final was held outside of Korea.
Last year, nearly 700 finalists from 67 countries competed in the Grand Final event in Singapore. Over 55,000 people attended the five-day festival to cheer on their respective countries, participate in new game demonstrations and meet people from all over the world they had previously only talked to online.
The WCGC moved quickly in announcing the city`s successful bid for the Grand Final in order to give officials the time to properly prepare for an event of this scale. Before making their decision, the WCGC reviewed competitive bids from other candidate cities, including Cologne, Germany; Montreal, Canada; and Busan, Korea.
Strict criteria such as location, facilities, infrastructure and promotional efforts all played a role in the committee`s decision.
While all candidates showed a great desire and capacity to host the event, Seattle was selected for receiving the highest scores in city government support, willingness for joint business development and suggested venues, including Seattle¡¯s Convention Center and Qwest Field, home of the Seattle Seahawks.
`The WCG recognizes the great opportunity for e-Sports among US gamers as well as their fans,` said Mr. Jeong. `We appreciate the efforts by Mayor Nickels and the city of Seattle to bring this global event back to the United States next year.`
Started as the World Cyber Challenge in 2000, the WCG was first officially held in 2001 and continues today under the slogan, `Beyond the Game.` It has grown into the world`s largest computer and video games festival with more than 1 million competing in 2005 in local, regional and national qualifying tournaments.
Organizers expect up to 700 of the world`s best gamers will travel to Monza, Italy, in October, 2006, to participate in the Grand Final of the most prestigious e-Sports competition and enjoy a well-rounded festival designed to promote culture and social harmony among world gamers.
Samsung Electronics is the worldwide sponsor for the World Cyber Games.

| WE.IGE.SWEET ON HIS BWWI VICTORY Posted by: SpeeDy
|
Below is a translated interview with WE.IGE.Sweet which was first published on Chinese eSports website Uzoo.net.
Q: Now thats some dramatic comeback.. A: Everybodys eager to win, especially when it's a blizzard tournament. It feels twice as good since the opponent was grubby. I really wanted to beat him, and since I did I just want this moment to last longer.
Q: Wasn't there any pressure coming up from the loser's bracket? A: There was since I had to win two bo3s. But I just took each game at a time. Looking back on the winner's bracket final I made few mistakes like lich getting stuck in the final game. But I'm glad I came on top at the end.
Q: This is your 2nd big achievement this year, first one being WEG. Any thoughts on that? A: I was playing WoW before WEG and that probably decreased my skill level. I regret playing WoW now . Anyhow it's really satisfying winning 2 tourneys in a row. Always wanted to beat moon and grubby so i'm satisfied!
Q: You lost the first games of each bo3. A: Well, first map of the first bo3 was GW. So when I lost I just told myself "No big deal, you can still win." But when I lost on TM, it got me really worried. Grubby stuck to normal strat so I went naga second to keep the pressure on.
Q: Now you've tasted victory, do you still want more? A: Well, my goal is to play without regret. Winning comes second.
Q: Any regrets on this tourney? A: Yes, first game of final bo3(GW). Couldn't micro as I desired. I should have kept the pressure when BM TPed but I guessed wrong about his starting point
Q: Who did you practiced with on this match-up? A: Mainly with Bera. Zacard too.
Q: You were considered as an underdog. A: Yeah, I lost to him 3 times. Twice in ESWC and once in Starswar a while ago. But I came here to win, being a pro you must have this kind of mindset.
Q: Why do you stay on 50 pop so long? A: I don't think thats a decisive factor. I got slow hands(low APM) so I tend to stack up few golds i guess
Q: Thoughts on grubby? A: One of the best, especially macro wise. Looking forward to facing him next time.
Q: Army status? A: I don't know yet. I want to play a bit longer so I am looking for a college.(students can delay their service.)
Q: Few big tourneys coming up, anything on your mind? A: I want to compete in as many tourneys as possible, especially next WEG and ESWC. I've went to ESWC last 2 years and I want to go France again.
Q: Any winning bonus from team WE? A: My team's treated me very well, giving me a raise and all. Bonus wouldn't hurt though
Q: You've just won 10 grand, any plans? A: Treat friends and save the rest

Coming back from the brink of defeat in the lower tournament bracket, Chun Jung Hee of South Korea, also known as "Sweet," has emerged as the Warcraft III Battle.net Ladder Season Three champion! As the entrant into the finals from the lower bracket, Sweet had to win a seemingly impossible two straight series match-ups. In both matches, Sweet lost each of the first games to his Orc opponent from the Netherlands, Grubby. Being one game away from defeat two times in a row, Sweet managed to come back and take the next two games in each match. With that final win, Ladder Season Three has now officially come to a close. Congratulations Sweet!
In the coming weeks, keep an eye on the Battle.net web site for more information about Season Four. Next up in the schedule of events in Seoul, South Korea at the COEX Exhibition Hall, will be a panel featuring World of Warcraft developers. This will be followed by the StarCraft finals later in the afternoon.

Three matches remain in today's action on the Worldwide Invitational 2006 main stage. First off will be the second semi-finals in the StarCraft Invitational featuring KTF teammates Yellow and Reach, who met in the finals at BlizzCon. Yellow emerged the victor there, though Reach will be out looking for a better result and a place in the finals against the Protoss player Nal_Ra.
The evening will conclude with two Warcraft III matches. First will be the upper bracket finals between Grubby and Sweet. They advanced by defeating ShowTime and Farseer in broadcasted matches earlier this morning. The winner of this match advances into the grand finals with the advantage of coming from the winner's bracket. The loser will drop into the lower bracket where ShowTime awaits. ShowTime has kept his hopes alive, working his way through the lower bracket. In the process he defeated Phreak and Farseer, ending both those players' ambitions of appearing in the finals.
